Root Canal Therapy

There is no dental treatment that’s received a worse reputation over the years than root canal therapy. This is because root canals are typically associated with pain.

Sadly, this reputation is unwarranted, as root canal therapy actually relieves the pain that is caused by a dental infection. Dr. Corn wants to set the record straight by sharing more information about this valuable procedure and how it might benefit you.

Do I Need a Root Canal?

If your tooth becomes injured or fractured, the soft interior can be exposed to bacteria and decay. If the decay reaches the pulp, where the nerve of your tooth is located, it will become infected and you will begin to feel pain.

Unfortunately, this infection won’t go away without treatment. In fact, it can progress and spread to other critical areas of your body. It could also lead to tooth loss if it’s left untreated.

If you are experiencing pain, it’s important to contact Corn Family Dentistry right away. Root canal therapy may be able to preserve your tooth if you act quickly, and Dr. Corn is here to help.

What Is Root Canal Therapy?

Dr. Corn will remove the infected tissue from within your tooth through a small access hole in the top. Once the infection is completely removed, we’ll seal your tooth with a temporary filling. It is then given time to heal.

After the appropriate healing time has passed, you’ll return to our office to have your tooth strengthened with a permanent filling or dental crown.

Does Root Canal Therapy Hurt?

At Corn Family Dentistry, your comfort is our priority. Dr. Corn uses the best dental anesthetics to ensure that you don’t feel anything during your procedure, and as a bonus, the anesthetic will immediately relieve your discomfort caused by the infection.

Dr. Corn is highly skilled and gentle, and most patients are pleasantly surprised that root canal therapy is not the painful procedure they expected.

Avoiding Root Canal Therapy

Many root canal procedures can actually be avoided with consistent preventative appointments. When you’re proactive about getting regular dental care, we can help you avoid many dental issues. For example, Dr. Corn is able to detect decay in its early stages, so you may be able to eliminate it with a less invasive dental filling before infection and pain occur.

Likewise, if you begin to feel sensitivity in your tooth, contact us right away and don’t wait to have it checked out, even if the sensitivity goes away. Again, we may be able to treat your tooth with a less invasive procedure and also save you from the pain of an infection.

Whether you’re experiencing dental pain or it’s time to schedule your next preventative appointment, give Corn Family Dentistry a call today. We have two locations in Franklin and Edinburgh, IN to serve your needs.
