Children's Dentistry

At Corn Family Dentistry, we understand how hectic our patients’ lives can be. You don’t have time to take every member of the family to a different dental provider, and that’s why we offer dentistry that suits the needs of the entire family in two convenient IN locations in Franlkin or Edinburgh.

We know that it’s more convenient for you, and more comfortable for your child, if the entire family can see the same dentist.

Your Child’s First Visit

As your child’s teeth begin to arrive, you might be wondering when should you first bring them to the dentist. Dr. Corn likes to see children beginning around the age of one year old or six months after their first teeth begin to erupt.

This may seem early; however, it allows us to get to know your child, monitor any developmental concerns early on, and help acclimate them to our office and the instruments we use. We’ll spend the first visit showing your child the “big chair” and counting their teeth. If your child is willing, Dr. Corn will examine their mouth.

We know that these first visits are important for building trust and future success at the dental office, so we’ll never move forward with any type of procedure until your child is absolutely comfortable.

As Your Child Gets Older

Children should see the dentist every six months just like their parents, and we’ll incorporate cleanings into visits as your child becomes more comfortable. As kids get older, we’ll monitor their development with x-rays, and we may recommend additional preventive treatment such as fluoride and dental sealants.

Fluoride is a mineral that helps to build and strengthen developing teeth. It can also help remineralize teeth that have been weakened by decay. Dental sealants are thin coatings that cover the chewing surfaces of your child’s back teeth to help protect them against tooth decay and cavities.

It is estimated that around 40% of dental emergencies result from sports, so if your child participates in sports, Dr. Corn can recommend the right protective wear to protect their teeth and mouth. Typically a custom-made mouth guard offers better protection during sports than a generic guard you might find at a sporting goods store.

Schedule Your Child’s Next Appointment

We can’t wait to meet your child and begin building a relationship with them! When we see your child every six months, it helps us make you aware of any treatment concerns early on. This typically means less invasive treatment procedures, which in turn results in a more comfortable and pleasant experience for them.

We’re committed to keeping your child’s visits to our office positive to help develop a good relationship with dentistry.

Frequently Asked Questions

We love to see children at Corn Family Dentistry!

We know first visits are important for children to set them up for success in the future, and this is why Dr. Corn spends time getting to know your child and building a relationship with them early on. We encourage parents to bring their children to their own dental appointments so they can get acclimated to our office and see that the dentist isn’t a scary place.

Ideally, Dr. Corn likes to start seeing children around the age of two years old. While this may seem early, we want to help your child get comfortable with the “big chair” and the instruments we use. This also gives us an opportunity to begin monitoring your child’s development so we can make you aware of any concerns early on.

As you child gets older, we may recommend services such as fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and mouth guards. Fluoride and dental sealants help build, strengthen, and protect small teeth from tooth decay and cavities. Mouth guards are essential in protecting your child’s mouth and teeth from sports-related injuries.
