Emergency Services

There are two things you can count on when you encounter a dental emergency:

  1. It will almost never occur at a convenient time.
  2. It may feel stressful, overwhelming, and even scary since sometimes there’s blood or a knocked-out tooth.

It’s good to know that with the right team on your side, like Corn Family Dentistry, you can rest assured that everything will be all right.

Understanding how to handle a dental emergency can also help make the situation less stressful, so here are some tips on how to manage common dental emergencies until you can get to Corn Family Dentistry.

A Broken or Chipped Tooth

When your tooth is broken, you’ll need treatment as soon as possible. Gather all the pieces of your tooth that you can and bring them to Dr. Corn. He’ll determine the best treatment for it and get you feeling comfortable again.

Even if your tooth only sustains a small chip, you should call us. While it may not need immediate treatment, a chip should be smoothed so it doesn’t cause irritation to your tongue or soft tissues.

A Lost or Broken Restoration

If you have a filling or crown that breaks or falls out, you’ll need treatment to ensure that no further damage or injury to your tooth occurs. Dr. Corn will repair or replace your restoration depending on your needs.

A Knocked-Out Tooth

When your tooth has been knocked out, time is of the essence. Contact Corn Family Dentistry right away as we have the best chance of saving your tooth within the first hour of your injury or accident.

Carefully transport your tooth to our office, being cautious not to handle it too much. If it can be placed back into its socket, this is the best way to transport it. If not, then use a cup or baggie filled with milk, which helps to keep the cells moist and alive.

Dental Pain or Sensitivity

If you have tooth that is sensitive or constantly aching, don’t wait to call us thinking this will go away without treatment. A toothache is typically an indicator of a dental infection, and it will get worse over time and could even lead to tooth loss or systemic infection if it’s left untreated.

Root canal therapy may be able to preserve your tooth if you’re proactive and call our office right away.
