While it is our goal at Corn Family Dentistry to help you preserve and maintain your natural teeth for a lifetime, there are certain circumstances that may require the removal of a tooth.
This may not be the best news to hear; however, Dr. Corn’s extensive skills and training allow him to handle most tooth extractions here at our office, so you’ll be working with the team you trust for your procedure.
When Do I Need an Extraction?
Dr. Corn will always do his best to preserve your tooth, if possible.
There are still a few circumstances that may come up that require a tooth to be removed such as:
- A severely decayed or damaged tooth that can’t be preserved with root canal therapy
- A tooth that is compromised and the patient has chosen to restore it with a dental implant
- Severe injury or trauma to a tooth
- Wisdom teeth, or third molars that have not erupted properly. Dr. Corn will refer you to an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extractions.
Root canal therapy can often preserve a decayed or injured tooth; however, if your tooth cannot be saved, Dr. Corn will recommend an extraction.
Does a Tooth Extraction Hurt?
At Corn Family Dentistry, we strive to make every visit comfortable and pleasant – even an extraction! Dr. Corn uses the best dental anesthetics so you won’t feel anything during your procedure except some slight pressure.
Dr. Corn clears his schedule to ensure that he’s with you throughout the entire procedure, which makes it smooth and efficient because you’re never left to wait on him. Most patients are pleasantly surprised at how easy a dental extraction can be.
Dr. Corn will give you specific post-operative instructions so your recovery at home will be comfortable and stress-free. If you have any questions or concerns about your recovery process, you can always contact your team at Corn Family Dentistry.
Replacing a Missing Tooth
When you lose a tooth, you’re faced with many new daily challenges and complications such as chewing your food properly and feeling confident about talking and smiling in front of others. Your oral health is also affected since your healthy teeth will begin to shift into the open space while your bone begins to dissolve, or resorb, without a root to support.
Dr. Corn can discuss different tooth replacement options and help you determine which one best suits your needs since it’s best to restore your tooth as soon as possible.
Having a tooth removed doesn’t have to be a stressful process when you work with the right team. Dr. Corn will not only help you through the extraction procedure, but he’ll also guide you in making a decision as to what the best replacement option for your needs many be.
